Getting Started

Building a website is not as complicated as you might think. The first part of your website on which you will need to focus is the Home Page. The purpose of the Home Page is to generate interest in your website. If people are not turned on by it, they will simply click and be gone. It is also especially important for your ranking in the Search Engines and Directories. Robots and spiders as well as people will read only your Home Page in order to decide the category or categories in which to place your website in their Search Engines and Directories and how well it should be ranked.

Your Home Page should tell people about you, your business and what you will do for them if they keep reading your website. It should be short and simple. Don't try to tell your whole story on the Home Page. That is what your interior pages are for.

After you complete the copy for your Home Page, you should then decide about the details you wish to present such as descriptions about your products, services, hours, location, contacting you, a shopping cart for your products, a page for people to sign up to get emails from you about your business, etc... These details will form the basis for the additional "Interior Pages".

A website should have at least 5 pages in order to give it a professional appearance. Of course, if you have a larger message to convey, it can have dozens of pages or more.

Each page should be concise and cover one topic. People do not like to scroll down a great deal in order to find information. Most people prefer to read short pages and your information should be organized in that manner. Graphics that will enhance your story are important to make the pages interesting and fun to read. If you have photos we will use them, or we can help you find photos that are relevant. We can also provide other types of graphics, including graphics that will give your pages movement.

Once you have written copy for your Home Page and determined what other pages you will want, we can start working for you. We will build your website to reflect your business. You can tell us exactly what you want, or let us suggest a design for you.

Once we start building your website you will be able to view it on your computer. You can email us suggestions or call us. We are building the site for you. The important thing is that you like it. If you don't like it, it will not give you the image and confidence for which you are paying.

During the creative part of the building your website your input is essential. You can email changes as you see your website taking shape and coming to life. This process will stimulate you and you will come up with ideas and verbiage that will make your website perfect for your business.

Remember, a website is always a work in progress. Unlike a brochure that must be reprinted each time you change something, a website can be continuously updated if that's what your business needs.
